Health insurance

In Denmark, we have national health insurance that is paid through taxes.

This means that hospitalisation and visits to the doctor are free of charge. You must, however, pay for medicine, dental work and some special medical treatment.

You select a doctor upon registering in the national register. When in need of medical services, you must use a medical card from the National Health Service. You receive your medical card in the mail about two weeks after registering for a CPR number. The card contains your full name, address and CPR number.
